My favorites… Fangirl Edition
While I generally adore and appreciate every member of each of these groups (musical or comedic), there are just some who have a special place in my heart…
Monkee: Mike Nesmith! The hat, the attitude, the musical talent, Michael was always the Monkee of my dreams. Yeah, Mickey sang all the good songs, Davy was the teen heart throb and Pete was the dork but Mike went on to collect the early music videos that started on MTV(?) And his mom invented Wite-out!! Seriously though, the hat gets me every time.
Beatle: John Lennon! When I was a kid and first got into the Beatles I used to wish that John was my BF and Paul was my brother so that I could have the best of both worlds (yes, I was a strange child). John had the coolest room in Help and I tended to like the songs he sang on best. Of course I made these judgments back in 4th grade when all that mattered to me was that John was hilarious when he answered the telephone. He was also the grooviest on all the posters we used to have.
Who: Pete Townshend! The man used to wear jumpsuits, swing his arm up in the air, strike the guitar and leap all at the same time. Also he could slide across the stage like no other. He still does some of his trademark moves, but they’ve become more of a parody of himself than with true gusto. Whatever, the man rocks.
Stella: David Wain! Ok! This was a hard one! I love ‘em all, but David Wain just edges his way out over MIB and Mike Show. I mean, MIB used to be the shining star for me what with Johnny Bluejeans and all but now it’s totally Waino. I think it’s the creepiness factor tied into the fact that he’s the scapegoat quite frequently. He is the director of Wet Hot American Summer and nothing trumps that.
Human Giant: Rob Huebel! How perfect did this work out that I found a black and white photo of all my favorites? Too perfect. Anywho, Huebel for the win since he is the Inconsiderate Cellphone Man, Canidate Zero and the face of Eight Continent Soy Milk. Scheer and Ansari are hilarious, but Rob always has the best t-shirts and he’s letting that grey hair shine on through. His blog is great too! My favorite member of HG changes all the time though…
Guster: Ryan Miller! On stage spokesman for Guster, Adam hardly ever speaks :’-(, Ryan steals the show with his swear words and witty remarks. He also happens to sing lead on most songs and used to be extra suave with his iPod blog on Guster.com. He’s married now and needs to shave the beard. I remember the good ole days when he looked like Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka.
